Lakhabariya Caves
Category Historic, Religious
Lakhabriya Caves, located near Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh, India, are believed to be a site where the Pandavas, the main characters of the epic Mahabharata, resided during their period of exile (अज्ञातवास). The caves are said to have been built during that time, and their name, “Lakhabariya,” is thought to be derived from the fact that there were originally one lakh (100,000) caves, although many have now been covered by soil.
